I guess part of the issue here is being clear on what each company's page/resource provides. So that each new 'page' for a music artist, for instance, isn't proclaimed as the canonical resource about that artists (really that should be up to the artist themselves to own), but instead, it's the BBC's/Guardian's/other's perspective on that artist - an aggregation on all that Company X has to offer around that artist.

So if they're identifying different things, and clearly doing so, that should help some of the confusion. The problem comes more when all different companies try to claim that they are the canonical resource for an artist, I reckon...

This is an interesting one for me at the moment.

I'm working on a project that will created automated music artist pages for a client. They will pull in content from Wikipedia, MusicBrainz, Vevo, SoundCloud etc with some original images.

So similar to bbc.co.uk/music and the Guardian music pages.

At the very least we are running a danger of creating similar pages to everyone else. And if more people do it then Google isn't going to be able to tell the difference.

Which will it put higher? Or will it start dumping them down.

Will be interesting to see.

I'm testing something with the +1 button and the +1's that come from the Chrome Extension are marked as "New +1 from other sites" in Webmaster Tools, as well as the ones I get directly from the SERPs, so it's a bit weird if your URLs are getting "New +1s from your site" if there is no +1 button on them :/ (probably the answer from newsmary could be the answer).

I would really appreciate if you update the post when you solve the "enigma" :D
