This blog mostly covers my main areas of interest: Search, Product Management and User Experience. In recent years at the Beeb, I've been leading a team of people whose focus was on improving discoverability of the BBC's content on the web. It's a role with a foot in both technical and editorial camps. Part of that work included data analysis using Experian Hitwise to glean insights that would help us more effectively commission and optimise content across BBC websites.
I'm constantly surprised that companies don't spend more time looking at what users are seeking out when they come to our websites. As Louis Rosenfeld puts it "When users search for your site, they're telling you in their own words what they want from your organization".
I'm very excited to have started a new role this year at ft.com where I'll be doing similar things, though with a little more focus on 'internal' Search.
